  ICT Schools has been instrumental in leading the way in the growth of the Massage Therapy and Shiatsu Therapy professions in Canada. Over the years of its existence ICT Schools has made many professional contributions which include:  
 
  • The development and adaptation of orthopedic assessment methods currently used by massage therapists today;
  • Expansion to a 2200-hour program doubling the educational standards in Ontario in the 1980’s;
  • The first provincially registered Shiatsu Therapy program in Ontario;
  • The first Massage Therapy Teacher Certification Program;
  • Exclusive access to SuikodoTM Therapy training developed by Sensei Mitsuki Kikkawa, Shiatsu Master;
  • Northumberland College is the first COMTA accredited institution offering massage therapy programming in Canada, and is the only COMTA accredited institution offering massage therapy programming in Nova Scotia;
  • Northumberland College is an Education Provider for Athabasca University and provides its massage therapy graduates with the advantage of being able to transfer up to 30 credits towards a degree in health sciences at Athabasca University. 
 
 
 

Department of Education Provides Educational Expertise

 
 

Northumberland College’s Department of Education, comprised of education experts, is dedicated to the development of curriculum that meets high academic standards and reflects an integrated and holistic approach to health care education. Exclusive to Northumberland College is Student-Centered-Interactive-Learning (SCIL) developed by ICT Schools’ Department of Education to facilitate the student learning process. The quality of our curriculum is reflected in the fact that Northumberland College has been approved as an education provider for Athabasca University.Graduates of the Northumberland College Massage Therapy program can transfer up to 30 Massage Therapy program credits towards a university degree.

College Facilities

 
  Facilities at Northumberland College include academic and practical classrooms with blackboards, overhead projectors, and access to TV and VCR. Practical rooms are fully equipped. Teaching Clinic is held on site utilizing practical rooms. ICT Schools provide a Student Learning Resource Centre which includes a library, study area and computers. A student lounge, Student  Association Office, reception area and administrative offices complete the facilities.
