Holistic Therapy Certificate Program

The Canadian Holistic Medical Association defines Holistic Medicine as “a system of health care which fosters a cooperative relationship among all those involved, leading towards optimal attainment of the physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of health.

It emphasizes the need to look at the whole person, including analysis of physical, nutritional, environmental, emotional, social, spiritual and lifestyle values. …[It] focuses on education and responsibility for personal efforts to achieve balance and well-being.”

Over the course of the past several decades, as increasing numbers of individuals search for alternative and complementary approaches to traditional medicine, the number of Holistic Therapies (also known as alternative or complementary

therapies) has rapidly proliferated.  So much so that the alternative healthcare marketplace has become a bewildering array of often confusing names and competing therapeutic claims.  From Reiki and Reflexology to Polarity Therapy and Neprathy, it has become increasingly difficult for even those within the complementary therapy community, let alone the average lay person or health care provider, to make sense of it all.

The purpose of ICT’s Holistic Therapy Certificate Program is to provide participants with an introduction to the philosophy, theory and practice of Holistic Therapy. The Program provides both a framework for approaching the study of Holistic Therapy (i.e. how to bring some order and make sense of what the marketplace is offering) as well as practical instruction in various therapeutic modalities. The Program also offers practical advice on how to start your own business, including discussions on and approaches to researching various professional requirements such as municipal licensing requirements, requirements to join professional Associations, as well as the basics of operating your own business.

This Program is suitable for the following individuals:

  • those wishing to pursue a career in holistic therapy, but who seek guidance in narrowing their field of pursuit.
  • current Health Care professionals, such as RMTs and RNs wishing to acquire knowledge and training in holistic therapies in order to enhance their existing health care practices.
  • members of the general public who wish to expand their knowledge in this area and acquire some basic holistic techniques for improving  wellness in their personal lives.
